The Nonprofit Strategies Scans – diagnostic frameworks to improve the performance of nonprofit organizations and volunteer programs

A scan provides a vehicle to better understand how an organization is functioning. You can use the results to move beyond a picture of the current state and to make operational decisions about how to improve the organization.  The Nonprofit Strategies Scans go beyond a paper and pencil exercise.  Instead, each scan is conducted via telephone allowing the investigator to probe deeper than possible with self-assessments.  Our scans are executed using a 4-step process:

Step 1:   First you sign up for a scan.  You will receive a demographics survey that will provide the assessment team with a “picture” of your organization.  Once completed, a telephone appointment(s) with the appropriate individuals will be made to proceed to step 2.

Step 2:  The Nonprofit Organization Scan is conducted separately with both the Board Chair and Executive Director.  The Volunteer Program Scan is conducted with the Manager of Volunteer Resources or similar person who is in charge of the program.  The entire scan can be accomplished during a one-hour telephone call with each person.

Step 3:  The results of the scan is evaluated by the Nonprofit Strategies Team.  An evaluation will be prepared that spells out (a) what elements are doing well with recommendations to enhance those elements; (b) what elements require change with recommendations for accomplishing the change and (c) what elements are essential but not existing at the organization.  Where appropriate, the recommendations will include a list of resources.

Step 4:  Once the evaluation report has been reviewed by the organization we will telephone one more time to review the results and answer any questions you might have.
